Clarification regarding ‘County’s stance vs. septic faces first test’
Responding to the article “County’s stance vs. septic faces first test” in the March 3-9 issue, Winnebago County Planning & Zoning Officer Troy Krup contacted The Rock River Times to dispute the accuracy of a statement indicating no opportunity for public input had been provided regarding the final plat and variation request for the Gensler property detailed in the article.
Krup indicated public comments were allowed during the Feb. 24 Zoning Committee meeting.
The final plat and variation request were not reviewed in a public hearing by the Zoning Board of Appeals, however, when public testimony is typically taken.
Zoning Committee member Paul Gorski (D-5) acknowledged that public notice was made regarding the committee meeting, as is the case for all committee meetings, but the agenda did not reflect an opportunity for public comments.
“Typically, we don’t have testimony given at Zoning Committee meetings,” Gorski noted. “We even open the meeting stating, ‘This is a meeting, not a hearing.’”
