Park District receives second financial reporting award

From press release

At the last meeting of the Rockford Park District Board of Commissioners, Controller Penny Christians presented the GFOA Award for Outstanding Achievement in Popular Annual Financial Reporting (PAFR) to the Rockford Park District Board of Commissioners. This is the first time the Park District has received this prestigious national award from the Government Finance Officers Association (GFOA) of United States and Canada; the award recognizes the Rockford Park District Board of Commissioners’ 2008 Annual Report.

This was the Park District’s first attempt at applying to obtain the PAFR award, and is one of only 10 state and local governments in Illinois to receive it. The award is a national recognition of conformance with the highest standards for preparation of state and local government reports, and signifies the district’s dedication to informing its citizens on the district’s finances in a transparent, easy-to-read format.

To receive the PAFR award, a government unit must publish a Popular Annual Financial Report, the contents of which conform to program standards of creativity, presentation, understandability and reader appeal.

The Rockford Park District also recently received the GFOA’s Certificate of Achievement for Excellence in Financial Reporting for its comprehensive annual financial report (CAFR) for the year ending Dec. 31, 2008.
