Wheat Ridge Ministries donates $35,000 for LSSI’s Prisoner and Family Ministry in Rockford

From press release

Wheat Ridge Ministries (WRM), an independent Lutheran charitable organization, recently pledged to contribute $35,000 over a three-year period as “seed money” for the Prisoner and Family Ministry of Rockford, a program of Lutheran Social Services of Illinois (LSSI).

LSSI, based in Des Plaines, Ill., is a social services agency that offers programs and services throughout the state, including the Rockford area.

Prisoner and Family Ministry of Rockford offers programs to help prisoners and parolees connect with their families and the resources they need to rebuild their lives. The grant will help support outreach to area churches to recruit and train volunteers for the programs, which include the Storybook Project, prisoner visitations, the Buddy House and programs at Beyer Elementary School, where nearly seven out of every 10 children have had a parent incarcerated at one time in their lives.

Wheat Ridge Ministries is recognized throughout the world as an independent Lutheran charitable organization that seeds new ministries of health and hope in the name of the healing Christ. Currently, more than 100 ministries are receiving assistance through Wheat Ridge funding.
