From press release
The YWCA will host “Skyn Deep,” a video program designed to increase dialogue and discussion about racial discrimination and prejudice. It will help participants gain new insights, perspectives and communication skills for improving racial justice in our community.
The training is scheduled for 5:30 to 8:30 p.m., Wednesday, March 24, at the YWCA of Rockford from. Cost is $40 per person, including dinner.
The YWCA has also scheduled a three-part training series titled “RACE: The Power of an Illusion.” Participants will be presented with the challenge to “unlearn” one of the fundamental beliefs in society today, the belief that human beings come divided into a few distinct biological groups.
This training is available to individuals interested in an academic study accompanied by open dialogues. It is designed to encourage us to question commonly held, often inaccurate cultural beliefs and is intended to promote and foster unity within the community.
Sessions are 5:30 to 8:30 p.m. on three consecutive Thursdays: April 15, April 22 and April 2. Cost for the training is $40 per person, per session, OR $100 per person for all three sessions; dinner is included in the cost of this series. Participants are encouraged to consider taking part in all three sessions for maximum impact. Participants are encouraged to register by April 9 and each session is limited to 40 individuals.
