Red Cross to collect donations for Disaster Relief Fund March 20

From press release

From 9 a.m. to 2 p.m., Saturday, March 20, volunteers from the Rock River Chapter of the American Red Cross will be standing at the intersections of Perryville and East State Street and North Main and Riverside in Rockford and the intersection of North State Street and Lincoln Avenue in Belvidere accepting donations to benefit the local Disaster Relief Fund.

When disaster strikes in our neighborhoods, members of the Red Cross Disaster Action Team mobilize to provide food, shelter and emotional support. The local Disaster Relief Fund enables the Red Cross to offer these important services when our neighbors need it most.

This resource helped the Red Cross respond to the devastating Labor Day floods in 2007 and 2008; to the Poplar Grove tornado; to help support displaced residents of Machesney Park after suffering extensive flooding; and to help the Red Cross respond to six to 10 residential fires every month.

The American Red Cross—Rock River Chapter is at 727 N. Church St., Rockford. Contact the chapter at (815) 963-8471 or visit http://www.rockriver.redcross.org/.
