Former Youth build Graduate here of 07*,I'm very stunned and disappointed at these actions taking place and agree that this may be more of a power struggle than just fair wages, in turn both will lose money in the cost of the attorneys alone and how does that help both? It does not, but I am only proof that both students & Former students, are in fact very well aware at the actions taking place here and find that both should lead by example to do their very best to reach a compromise that will suit both parties. Youth build pulls us out of the gutter, polishes us and points us to look up & the union stretches out its hand of opportunity for an on going tomorrow, the inspiration is better inspired with both working together as one of our communities best examples because after all WE ARE the future of tomorrow for our community. If youth build has to pay the 48 nearly $49,000 that will not only put a dent in the organization but in its student body by its mind/heart for in a childs/young adults mind & Heart many seeds are planted to which will grow no One can be certain. By chance if youth build does not have to pay then they should show their greatest gratitude for its learning experience for future reference and I'm sure they will. Everyone has faults and makes mistakes but who are any of us to judge lets just get up and fix it together because two is always better than One. *Special Thanks to youth build & the Union, I would've been lost without You Both* always remember measure twice and cut once =D

Prevailing wage laws exist to protect workers from unscrupulous employers.

Convicts were once utilized as workers under the guise of their receiving training as a byproduct of their work.

Union is becoming a dirty word. The one-time protectors of our workforce now seem to be the largest obstacle between the working population and true fairness. I have been disgusted by stories of the unions protecting workers that deserved to be fired or worse and that was a sneeze compared to the lightning strike in hearing of the attack on a non-profit community organization that is truly doing good for the entire community. I would swear, but it seems enough to just say UNION anymore. Greed and progress have never been brothers. The same necessity that gave birth to the union now cries for liberation from their dirty hands. UNION! If they were YouthBuild graduates, they would have a better sense of community.

I am dismayed by the actions of the Carpenters Union. CCS is little threat to their enterprise, yet they have historically attacked anyone who undercuts their monopoly in the least. I think the prevailing wage law is unknown to the public, who don't know that public funds cannot accept bids from non-union sources. The public gets no benefit from paying top dollar for everything. Much of the money goes right into the union coffers to fund this sort of lawsuit, sustaining their monopoly on public construction. I'm all for well paid workers, but these strong arm tactics by the Carpenters Union highlight its about power, not fair wages.
