Monroe Crossing, Carrie Elkin March 26-27
From press release
Charlotte’s Web offers two performances at two different venues March 26-27. Whatever your preference in music style, these talented performers are sure to please.
At 7:30 p.m., Friday, March 26, hear Monroe Crossing at Spring Creek United Church of Christ, 4500 Spring Creek Road, Rockford. This band plays an upbeat blend of classic and traditional bluegrass, bluegrass gospel and heartfelt originals. Always a crowd pleaser, Monroe Crossing is known for its dynamic stage show and the warmth it shares on and off stage—interacting with one another and the audience. Having acquired numerous awards, they were inducted into the Minnesota Music Hall of Fame Nov. 2, 2007. Their eighth CD, Live From Silver Dollar City, was released in December. Monroe Crossing is Art Blackburn: guitar, lead & harmony, vocals; Lisa Fuglie: fiddle, mandolin, lead & harmony vocals; Matt Thompson: mandolin, fiddle, baritone vocals; Mark Anderson: bass & bass vocals; and Benji Flaming: banjo. “I dare ANYONE to watch Monroe Crossing and not get happy!”—D. A. Callaway, Silver Dollar City
Matt and Lisa will also share their expertise with students from the Music Academy of Rockford College’s Saturday Fiddle Club in an educational exchange prior to the concert.
Tickets are $12 in advance, $15 at the door. In addition to the regular outlets, tickets for this show are also available at Spring Creek UCC, 4500 Spring Creek Road, (815) 877-2576.
At 7:30 p.m., Saturday, March 27, JustGoods Listening Room, 201 Seventh St., Rockford, will host Carrie Elkin in “An Evening with an Austin Songstress.” A minstrel in the most classic fashion, Elkin has ridden a gypsy breeze of serendipity for the last 10 years, landing for a time in Cleveland, Athens, Taos, Steamboat Springs, Colorado Springs and Boston, finally coming to settle in Austin, Texas, in summer 2007. It’s this sort of openness to the people and places she encounters, and to the opportunities that might emerge in every new and particular circumstance, that grew to become the central theme of this new album… and the very process by which Elkin somehow managed to find herself in the midst of some of Austin’s finest musicians and producers, literally, within days of arriving in town. While making a buzz around the Austin scene with her highly-spirited and spontaneous performances, Elkin spends the majority of her time on the road still, touring nationally and in the UK and Europe.
Tickets are $10 in advance, $15 at the door. Advance tickets are available at Rockford Area Arts Council, 713 E. State, (815) 963-6765; both of The Postal Shoppe locations, in the Edgebrook Center, (815) 397-7301 and 2205 S. Perryville, (815) 484-0940; The Kilt & Clover, 1414 N. Main, (815) 962-5458; and JustGoods, 201 Seventh St., (815) 965-8903. Tickets can also be ordered with credit card via PayPal ($1 /ticket service charge), at www.charlotteswebofrockford.org.
