Access Services of Illinois hosts Awareness and Resource Fair March 27

MACHESNEY PARK, Ill.—Access Services of Northern Illinois hosts its Fifth Annual Awareness and Resource Fair Saturday, March 27, at Machesney Park Harlem High School. Workshops offered during this fair offer “Education, Transition and Lifetime Enhancement.”
From 10:30 a.m. to noon, Dr. Dan Griffith from Rockford Health System will present “Sensory Integration/Why Do Children Do What They do?” Understanding the reasons for children’s behavior helps parents understand their children better and provide them with more appropriate ways of communicating and meeting their needs. Held in Classroom 1.
Also from 10:30 a.m. to noon, Dr. Paula Neville from Harlem School District will present “Transition Topics—Parent Handbook.” She will speak about the topic of transitioning children with disabilities into the real world. Members of the local Transition Planning Committee will also be available for questions. Held in Classroom 2.
From 12:30 to 2 p.m., Carl Mook from Protected Tomorrows will present “Special Needs Trusts/Financial Planning.” He will speak about identifying, designing and implementing solutions to life planning such as health care, residential, employment, recreation and fiscal challenges for people who have a child with special needs. Held in Classroom 1.
Also from 12:30 to 2 p.m., Wendy Partridge from Illinois Association of Microboards and Cooperatives will present “Creating New Alternatives to Live Rich Lives within Your Community.” Are you or do you know a person with a disability who wants both quality and flexibility in human services? Learn about a growing model for self-determination in Illinois. Held in Classroom 2.
Fifty vendors will also be in attendance to highlight what they have to offer.
