‘Take Back the Night’ march for sexual assault awareness at Rockford College April 8
From press release
A march to bring awareness of sexual assault and other violence against women will be held April 8, starting at 5 p.m. at Rockford College.
The event, “Take Back the Night,” is part of an international movement in which marches are held across the globe. Information and exhibits will open at 3:30 p.m. Anyone may participate by showing up at the Burpee Center Grace Roper Lounge prior to the 5 p.m. start time. The march will wind through campus and end where it started.
“Sexual assault and violence against women are known as ‘silent crimes’ because they are not always reported,” said Jenifer Swanson, one of the organizers of the event. “The more we talk about it, the more awareness we bring of the problem.”
Along the route, marchers will stop at various points to hear speakers talk about women’s issues. The event will conclude with a candlelight remembrance in the Grace Roper Lounge to remember victims of sexual assault and violence.
