‘Doing Ministry—a Primer’ workshop May 4 at JustGoods

From press release

Rockford Urban Ministries (RUM) will host a free workshop titled “Doing Ministry—a Primer” Tuesday, May 4, beginning at 6 p.m. at JustGoods meeting room, 201 Seventh St.

The two-hour workshop will cover conception and formation of projects, fund-raising, media and recruitment. The workshop will encourage church-sponsored projects, but is open to the public.

Presenters include Stanley Campbell, executive director of Rockford Urban Ministries; Michelle Ryan, Rockford Work Camps director; and Adrienne Z. Langley, LCSW, a Public Service Administrator at H. Douglas Singer Mental Health Center.

Campbell will lead the discussion with lessons learned from 25 years of “doing ministry” as executive director of Rockford Urban Ministries, and outreach of 25 congregations, mainly United Methodist.

Ryan will give hints to preparing work camp volunteers for out-of-town missions, and Langley will also share some of her experiences. Langley’s been active in the Rockford community as the past president of the Signal Hill Neighborhood Association and also past president of the local chapter of the League of Women Voters.

The program is free and open to the public, but call (815) 964-7111 to register, or for more information.
