Rockford schools honor teachers, volunteers, support staff at award gala April 22

Rockford Public School District 205 Superintendent Dr. LaVonne M. Sheffield and Rockford Education Association President Molly Phalen will present the 2010 Those Who Excel Awards during a banquet Thursday, April 22, at the Tebala Shrine Temple, 7910 Newburg Road.

Recipients in five categories—teacher, administrator/principal, certified student support personnel, noncertified educational service personnel and school board member/community volunteer—go on to state-level competition, including the Illinois Teacher of the Year distinction. Those Who Excel Awards are highly regarded in the education community because selections are determined by industry peers.

The banquet begins with a reception at 5:30 p.m. and award presentations following a 6 p.m. dinner.
