Celebrate Earth Day, Saturday, April 24, at Rock Valley College, 3301 N. Mulford Road, Rockford. More than 65 community organizations will share information regarding how Green is Gr$$n and how you can make a difference. Theme is “Green is Gr$$n” from noon to 4 p.m.
A series of workshops will be held in the Physical Education Center, including: Native plants and Native planting; Composting, grow your own; Product Obituary, the Story of Stuff; Deconstruction and Green Jobs; Share the Cause: Going Green one home at a time. Workshops will take place at 12:30, 1:30 and 2:30 p.m.
Refreshments will be sold. Just in time for planting, 1,000 trees will be given away—first come, first served (one per family).
Bring your items to recycle, too. Keep Northern Illinois Beautiful (KNIB) will collect cell phones. Winnebago County Health Department will collect mercury thermometers. Interstate will collect and recycle all old batteries including hearing aid and car batteries.
