New case management system hits month-long snag

Despite much hype during Winnebago County Board Chairman Scott Christiansen’s (R) State of the County address April 15, a new $6.7 million court case management system will not “go live” as expected in April.
The software and equipment are expected to help streamline operations, ultimately saving money through real-time availability of electronic information shared by various justice system agencies.
Initially, county officials had hoped the new system would be online April 5, but the date was pushed back to April 26 while the finishing touches were being implemented.
The county’s outdated online database has been in use since 1999, and data conversion for the new system began as planned April 21, but performance problems caused a roadblock the following day, according to a press release.
“The solution will take approximately four weeks to implement and thoroughly test,” the joint press release from Christiansen, State’s Attorney Joe Bruscato (D), 17th Circuit Chief Judge Janet Holmgren (R), Circuit Clerk Tom Klein (R) and Sheriff Dick Meyers (D) stated. “Delays of this nature are not totally unexpected for a project of this magnitude.”
