128th annual emcampment of Sons of Union Veterans May 8 at Memorial Hall

The John A. Logan Camp No. 26, Sons of Union Veterans of the Civil War, will host the 128th annual encampment of the Illinois Department, Sons of Union Veterans of the Civil War, Saturday May 8, at Memorial Hall in Rockford.
This will be the fourth state encampment hosted by the camp since 1885.
The encampment will be preceded by the dedication of a headstone at Greenwood Cemetery for a local Civil War soldier who was killed at Vicksburg in 1863, and will be followed by a luncheon, business meeting and election of new department officers for the year 2010-2011.
Past Logan Camp commander Terry Dyer of Roscoe, Ill., is the favorite for becoming the new department commander, and will be the ninth department commander to come from the Rockford camp.
No fewer than 50 representatives from the Sons of Union Veterans camps across the state and several national leaders of the Sons will be in attendance.
