Rep. Chuck Jefferson hosts Mother’s Day Luncheon May 8

State Rep. Chuck Jefferson will host his 8th Annual Mother’s Day Luncheon on Saturday, May 8, at Cliffbreakers, 700 W. Riverside Blvd. in Rockford.
Registration will begin at 9 a.m., and the program will last from 10 a.m. until 1 p.m. Jefferson’s Mother’s Day Committee has confirmed that more than 350 Rockford-area mothers will be in attendance this year, and attendees are asked to donate a canned good for the Rock River Valley Food Pantry.
“I am asking for canned good donations for the Rock River Valley Food Pantry this year to help out our neighbors who have been hard hit by the economic downturn,” said Jefferson. “This event will not only be a celebration for mothers, but an opportunity to help local families.”
Jefferson’s Mother’s Day Luncheon is a day of respect and appreciation for area mothers. The event includes lunch, music, door prizes and speakers. Past guests of the event include U.S. Sen. Dick Durbin and President Barack Obama.
“It is unfortunate that much of the hard work and devotion of mothers and grandmothers goes unnoticed throughout the year,” Jefferson said. “The Mother’s Day Luncheon is my way of showing my gratitude for all they have done to make our community a better place.”
In addition to encouraging community involvement and support of local service agencies and food pantries, Jefferson has been working in Springfield to pass laws designed to create jobs and improve the economy. Jefferson recently helped to pass the capital construction plan, which will put hundreds of thousands of people back to work repairing our infrastructure and roads. Jefferson also supported pension reform legislation that is designed to save the state billions of dollars, and prevent future budget shortfalls.
