Auburn High to pay tribute to former receptionist May 10

Auburn High School will host a fund-raiser and dedication ceremony for former receptionist Carol McFeggan, who was tragically killed in her home last year.
The unveiling of a courtyard bird feeder and decorative indoor water fountain will be at 6 p.m., Monday, May 10, in the main office. Following the dedication ceremony, a trivia contest and silent auction will take place in the school’s library, with former Jeopardy! champion and Auburn alumnus Paul Gutowski serving as emcee.
Organizers want to raise additional money to establish a Carol McFeggan fund to purchase items such as yearbooks, class rings and prom dresses for students in need.
Entry fees are $7 per player or $25 for teams of four adults. Students pay $5 per player or $18 for a team of four. Anyone is welcome to participate. Pizza, salad and drinks will also be on sale.
McFeggan worked at Auburn since 2000 and in other positions in Rockford Public Schools since 1981. She was a finalist in the support personnel category for the 2009 Those Who Excel Award, presented annually for excellence in public education. Auburn staff, who had submitted the nomination, cited McFaggen’s calm demeanor and anonymous acts of kindness, such as the then-recent purchase of a class ring for a homeless student.
