Grant to assist Illinois Growth Enterprises, Rockford Computers for Schools in expanding electronics recycling

Illinois Growth Enterprises (IGE) and Rockford Computers for Schools (RCFS), both located at 7200 Clinton Road in Loves Park, Ill., received funds from the Illinois Department of Commerce and Economic Opportunity for expanding their electronics recycling operations through the Illinois Recycling Grant Program.
Computer equipment from Illinois residents and businesses is accepted six days a week, 9:30 a.m.-5:30 p.m., Monday-Thursday; 8:30 a.m.-3:30 p.m.; and 8:30 to 11 a.m., Saturday. RCFS volunteers refurbish computers to place in schools, other non-profits or with disadvantaged school-age youth. People with disabilities employed by IGE disassemble obsolete computer equipment for responsible recycling.
These grant funds are making it possible for both organizations to invest in much-needed capital equipment to expand their operations. The total weight of computer equipment accepted through these organizations averages 6 tons per month. With the additional capital equipment and tools, these organizations anticipate processing a total monthly average of 10 tons of computer equipment.
Illinois Growth Enterprises employs nearly 200 adults with disabilities at their production facility. Rockford Computers for Schools depends on more than 23 volunteers giving a total of 500 hours per month to refurbish computers.
