17th Annual Black/Hispanic Achievers Awards Ceremony May 13

The top 20 minority students will be recognized for their achievements at the 17th Annual Black/Hispanic Achievers Awards Ceremony beginning at 5:30 p.m., Thursday, May 13, at the Radisson Hotel, 200 S. Bell School Road.
Black/Hispanic Achievers is a program of the YMCA, Booker Washington Community Center and LaVoz Latina that effectively links minority high school students to various professional minority adults to encourage career exploration, improve academic performance and promote higher education.
More than 160 students were involved in the program during the current school year, and 44 participated in a four-day tour of regional colleges.
Dr. Rudy Valdez, Rockford Mayor Larry Morrissey’s (I) education liaison, is the key-note speaker. Dr. Valdez is a senior manager at Hamilton Sundstrand.
