Local diver releases new juvenile fiction title

ROCKTON, Ill.—When local scuba diver Gayle Adams isn’t teaching visitors about the Great Lakes shipwrecks, she’s writing stories for teens. Her debut title, One Girl’s Dream for Freedom, is a World War II period novel that traces the adolescent journey of Mary Altman from Germany to America.
Outlining issues many teens face today, the novel serves as a moral compass for young people trying to navigate the perilous waters of growing up. Adams’ ministry to troubled and educationally challenged youth helps bring a relevance to the characters and the drama that few adults can muster.

Adams has earned many awards in the Scuba diving industry, and is on the Board of Directors for Jim Lockwood Scuba Museum in Loves Park, Ill. She teaches adolescents and their families the shipwreck history of the Great Lakes while continuing her work with troubled juveniles.
