I CHALLENGE Reggie Roberson and the Editors of Rock River Times to provide ANY negative information Reggie has had in print regarding Dr. LaVonne Sheffield.

We all have our opinions, but for Reggie to claim to be a reformed Sheffield supporter, seems an outright lie.

How about it Reggie? Care to share any links to your past concerns about Dr. Sheffield.

Story time! 2 candidates for a cafeteria manager’s job in Lewis Lemon school in Rockford.
#1 candidate…over 10 years middle school kitchen (w/satelitte schools) meat cook experience, highly qualified, caucasian.
#2 candidate…about 3 years kitchen experience, baker experience a few of those years, less qualified, African-American.

Lewis Lemon African American principal requests African American candidate, makes request known to Lavonne Sheffield, presto-chango…African American less qualified candidate gets position!!!!

I have a friend that teaches at West Middle School and one day in class a male student called told my friend to “suck my #$$@ “. As the story unfolds the student was not punished because Dr Sheffield said they have to keep the disciplined numbers the same, meaning all races have to have the same amount of students out of school because of disciplinary reasons so with that being said my friend has to keep a zipped lip and teach a child who showed no respect what so ever and these kids know it and are running amok. This only one story !!!!!! Reggie you are way off base on this one. Ask to go sit in on classes at West Middle School and let us know what you think of Lavonne , I was invited for a day and could only handle one class. Shame on you for your article and shame on Rockford for allowing this thief into the system.

Hmmmm ….. I’ve got an idea …. why bother with any math classes? Like you said, “Does anybody remember or use this stuff?” We have calculators today, skip the math stuff. While we’re at it, that English class stuff – can that too. Texting has changed the whole way we write so why bother with the formal stuff. Science? Nope don’t need that, nature happens, oil spills happen, and all that other brainy stuff happens. As for the rest of the curriculum – do away with it too. Computers and the internet can teach kids just as well along with a daily dose of television and video games.

The point you seem to miss about a well rounded education for all students is that we do not have (nor do they) any idea what these children will grow up to be. So a first class education gives them options. Some will choose college, some will choose a trade, some will choose to go into the military, some will choose to enter the working world, and unfortunately, some will choose to drop out and be unproductive in life. Till we know what each student has in mind for their future, we need to provide them with an education that will shape their minds and bodies so that they can make an informed decision for themselves on what their life will be like once the either graduate from high school or make the choice to leave school before graduation.

What do you really now about EDUCATION?

-”Why do we bother with French, Spanish, gym and other classes that provide no real value to high-schoolers?”-

Do you know you need four years of high school foreign language to apply to prestige Universities?
If you know the magic formula to learn another language for few dollar in few weeks…why you are wasting you time sell your system to the government be a millionaire.

PE is a federal mandatory course due overweight of young Americans.

Four years of government will not change anything in our society. Economics??? Yes but you have to learn first algebra or you won’t get many economic formulas……

I teach science and math at high school level and I do not teach to the test. I teach my students to be responsible and good citizens using science and math, and just in case I do not teach in Rockford district, and yes I do not like Sheffield because I have seen what she did in my son’s school. As an outside teacher I do not trust on her. Finally with a lot of pain I am moving my kid next year to a parish school because I Do Know How Important is Education for his Future Life!!!!!!
