Mid-American Canoe & Kayak Race Rollin’ Down the Fox River June 6
From press release
AURORA, Ill.—The Mid-American Canoe and Kayak Race is accepting registrations for the 49th annual running of the historic event to be held June 6 on the Fox River.
The long-popular race will feature two different lengths for paddlers to choose from—a 10-mile run starting in St. Charles and a 6-miler from Batavia—with both races finishing with a post-race party at McCullough Park in Aurora, Ill.
“We’re excited to offer paddlers a choice,” said race director Jeff Long. “Having two race lengths gives paddlers of all ages and abilities the opportunity to participate and enjoy this event at a pace best suited for them.”
The 10-mile race will begin at 9 a.m. from Mt. St. Mary Park in downtown St. Charles, with the 6-mile race starting at 10:30 a.m. from the VFW in Batavia, just south of downtown. Boats will be launched in heats of 10 every four minutes from both start areas. Free shuttle buses will run continuously along the route beginning at 7:30 a.m.
All registered paddlers will receive a commemorative T-shirt, goodie bag, sub sandwich lunch with chips and drink, and be eligible for prize drawings at the post-race party, which will feature vendors and entertainment. An awards ceremony and trophy presentations will cap the event.
New features this year include group discounts for Scouts, school groups, community teams and businesses. Reserve a 10-boat heat for your fleet, and each paddler in the group gets $5 off his/her race fee.
Also, discount canoe rental packages are available, providing convenient access and savings for those who don’t have their own boat. Each two-person team will save $20 off rental and race fee with the package.
