Rockford Dance Company offers class for physically disabled

From press release

Rockford Dance Company will be introducing a special eight-week session for teens and adults with physical disabilities to explore dance movements and the creation of an “Adapted Dance Company.” The eight-week session will explore three different genres of dance, ballet, modern and jazz. Each class will conclude with a discussion to determine participants’ likes and dislikes and future interest. “This is an experimental program for both the participants and Rockford Dance Company,” explained School Director Margaret Rennerfeldt. “We have done research on similar programs and believe that such programming would benefit our community and RDC’s goal to reach out to underserved populations.”

Classes will begin Tuesday, June 8, at the Rockford Dance Company, 711 N. Main St. Classes will run from June 8 to July 27, from 5:30 to 7:15 p.m. Cost is $40 per person. Interested participants, age 14 or older, can call (815) 963-3341 to register. Interested parties who are unable to schedule this class should also communicate their interest with the office.

This program has been made possible through a grant from the Rockford Park District.

RDC is a past recipient of the Mayor’s Arts Award for its production of The Sleeping Beauty and A Midsummer Night’s Dream. Established in 1981, the School of the Rockford Dance Company serves more than 600 students each year and provides a variety of dance classes year round to students ages 3 to senior citizen. In addition, DanceReach, the performing company of the school, performs throughout the year for community events. RDC’s newly-renovated offices and five studios are located in the Riverfront Museum Park. RDC is partially funded by grants from the Rockford Area Arts Council, the Illinois Arts Council, the Smith Charitable Foundation, the Brubaker Charitable Foundation and the Rockford Park District.
