OSF Saint Anthony Community Health Program offers suggestions to ‘save face’

June 9, 2010

From press release

Not all facial surgeries and treatments are intended purely for the sake of appearance. For some people, having upper eyelid surgery not only helps them look younger but, more importantly, is necessary to improve their sight. In some cases, the eyelid needs to be reshaped so that it no longer interferes with vision.

For other people, a septo rhinoplasty (“nose job”) isn’t for cosmetic reasons but to repair facial injuries, correct a deviated septum or amend breathing.

Cancer of the head or neck may also require reconstructive procedures that are not purely cosmetic.

Dr. Dhavel Patel, reconstructive and plastic surgeon affiliated with OSF Specialty Clinic-Guilford Square, will discuss facial surgeries and skin care during the free Community Health Program to be held at 6 p.m., Wednesday, June 16, in the atrium at OSF Saint Anthony Medical Center.

The program, “Saving Face: Aging with Style and Grace,” will explore facial skin and tissue reconstruction procedures used to address functional problems that interfere with sight or breathing or treat cancer.

Dr. Patel will also discuss the cosmetic uses of Botox, fillers and laser treatments to help people look their best no matter what their age.

Dr. Patel will be available for a question-and-answer session at the conclusion of the presentation.

Light refreshments will be served. The program is free, but reservations are required by calling OSF Saint Anthony cardiovascular services at (815) 395-5493.

OSF St. Anthony Medical Center, a Level I Trauma Center, is owned and operated by OSF HealthCare, an affiliate corporation of The Sisters of the Third Order of St. Francis, Peoria. Its Web site is www.osfsaintanthony.org.
