Rockford man snags sturgeon in Rock River

May 22, this sturgeon was caught by Nick Sparacino of Rockford during a camping trip at Crow Valley Campgrounds in Sterling, Ill. Nick caught and released the sturgeon in the Rock River. The fish was about 30 inches long. Sturgeons are endangered species and are rarely caught in Illinois. Nick is proud to have caught one, and said it was awesome to have caught a glimpse of such an elusive and ancient fish.
