Ribbon-cutting at Choices to celebrate natural food market’s expansion
From press release
Despite the economic downturn, at least one Rockford-area business is continuing to flourish. Choices Natural Market, Rockford’s premier natural food store, has signed a lease to expand its current location and double in size. The store will host a ribbon-cutting Thursday, June 10, to celebrate the expansion.
Bob King, owner of Choices Natural Market, said: “Our lease was ending this spring, and we had been looking into moving, but it would not have been cost effective. When the neighboring business recently left, our landlord offered the space to us and we decided to go ahead since we are out of out of room in our current store.”
The larger space will allow Choices Natural Market to increase its selection of organic produce, bulk foods, and allergen-free foods, as well as increase the size of the vitamin and supplement department.
“We will be adding a produce cooler, a dairy cooler and a stockroom, which we currently do not have,” King said. “We will also have an area to use for workshops and classes aimed at educating our customers. Operating in such a small space has been difficult, but when we opened five years ago, we weren’t sure what the demand would be, so we decided to start out small. This will also give us more room to expand our selection of local foods, which we are very excited about.”
With all of the controversy surrounding food—i.e. genetic modification, recalls, hormones, antibiotics, animal living conditions, preservatives, etc., along with the increased awareness of organic food and how our diets affect our overall health, the natural food industry has continued to grow in spite of the recent recession.
Choices Natural Market is a family owned natural food store at 6551 E. Riverside Blvd., Rockford. The store specializes in natural and allergen-free foods and has the largest selection of organic produce in the Rockford area. Their commitment to the Rockford community and local farmers has become a great asset to the community.
