Police in search of information related to June 1 battery that resulted in death of local 17-year-old

Tuesday, June 1, shortly after 3 p.m., patrol officers from the Rockford Police Department responded to 211 N. Johnston Ave. in reference to a battery investigation. When they arrived, they located the 17-year-old victim, Christian Hernandez, who had apparently been involved in a fight and beaten up by an unknown subject(s).
Hernandez was transported to a local hospital by Fire Department ambulance, where he was treated for his life-threatening injuries.
Over the course of the following days, Hernandez’s condition continued to deteriorate, and Wednesday, June 9, he died as a result of his injuries. An autopsy conducted by the Winnebago County Coroner’s Office determined Hernandez died as a result of blunt force trauma. The incident is now being investigated as a homicide.
