Mendelssohn names High School Starr of Excellence winners

The Mendelssohn Performing Arts Center has announced the winners of the 2010 High School Starr of Excellence Award.
The winners are Daniel Olson of Auburn High School, Michael Day of Boylan High School, Anastacia Campbell of Christian Life High School, Shane Bradley of Rockford East High School, Jessica Benson of Guilford High School, Kaelan Dennis of Jefferson High School, Katie Schulz of Keith Country Day School, Kendall Ferguson of Rockford Lutheran High School, and Blake Fewell of Rockford Christian School.
The High School Starr of Excellence Award is a monetary award presented annually to an outstanding senior music student at each of nine Rockford area high schools.
Recipients are selected by their school’s music department for excellence in their school music program and exemplary citizenship, both at school and in the Rockford community.
Mendelssohn inaugurated the High School Starr of Excellence Award in 1994 as part of its centennial celebration. The award was made possible by an original endowment from the Ingersoll Foundation and continues in part because of the Ruth V. Boen Educational Memorial Fund.
