Severson Dells Notes: ‘Pack the Preserve!’ June 23-26 at Severson Dells

“Pack the Preserve!” Wednesday-Saturday, June 23-26, and celebrate Fannie B. Severson’s 369-acre donation to the Winnebago County Forest Preserve District in 1975 (35 years ago) of what is now Severson Dells Forest Preserve. Acknowledge the realization of Severson’s dream that the Nature Center continues to thrive.
Four fabulous days of programs and events will be offered at Severson Dells Nature Center.
Pack the Preserve will include the following events:
→ Grandparents and Kids Camp (for grandparents and their grandchildren ages 5-12)—Wednesday-Thursday, June 23-24, 9-11:30 a.m.: Come one, come all, young and young at heart. Spend two fabulous mornings with your grandchildren enjoying the out-of-doors. Severson Dells offers a variety of activities to complement differing levels of ability. → Rising Gael—Thursday, June 24, 6:30-8:30 p.m.: Since forming in 2004, Rising Gael has entertained audiences of all ages and musical interests in cities across the country. → Birds and Breakfast—Friday, June 25, 7 a.m.: Join in on this early-morning bird walk led by Phil Schwab. Look for those summer resident birds of the Dells and who knows what else? → Hall Creek Walk—Fun for the Family—Friday, June 25, 1:30-3:30 p.m.: Would you like to see the Dells like you have never before? Strap on some old tennis shoes and join Severson Dells on this unique look at the Dells as you hike Hall Creek. Call for more information: (815) 335-2915.
→ Book Release Party—Friday, June 25, 7:30-8:30 p.m.: Don Miller, executive director of Severson Dells Nature Center, will present stories and readings from his just released book, Life Afloat. → Denizens of the Pond—Saturday, June 26, 8 a.m.-noon (ages 12 and older): Begin with an introduction about ponds and pond life, and then explore the pond to collect specimens! Identify representative organisms, and then release them back to their natural home. BRING: hip boots or old sneakers and shorts. (Or, if you don’t have boots/sneakers, you can be in charge of sorting from the shore). Fee: $5. Call (815) 335-2915.
→ Pack the Preserve: Celebrating 35 years of Severson Dells Forest Preserve—Saturday, June 26, 6:30-7:45 p.m.: Free to all, with refreshments after the program. It was in 1975 that Fannie Severson donated what would come to be known as Severson Dells Forest Preserve to the Winnebago County Forest Preserve District. A wonderful gift that can be enjoyed by all ages and interests, and by present and future generations.
Celebrate and hear the stories of the dedication to the present through the eyes of those who have been inspired by the landscape, flora and fauna.
