Stephenson County Historical Society’s Ice Cream Social June 17

FREEPORT, Ill.—Summer begins June 17 when the Stephenson County Historical Society hosts its annual Ice Cream Social from 5 to 8 p.m. on the museum grounds at 1440 S. Carroll Ave., Freeport, Ill.
In addition to the traditional fare of ice cream, cake or pie, coffee or lemonade, this year, the event will offer for an additional fee a menu of hot dogs, Coney dogs, barbecues, Mrs. Mike’s potato chips, as well as pop or water.
The elderly and handicapped, as well as the general public, are invited to park in the lot of the Church of the Nazarene on the corner of Stephenson and Carroll, and a shuttle bus will transport them to and from the museum grounds. This is a new feature being provided this year because of the lack of adequate parking space on the museum grounds.
Young and old alike will be able to participate in free games of bingo and cake walks and prizes will be awarded to the winners. Tobin’s DJ service will provide the background music and several antique automobiles will be displayed around the grounds.
The drawing for the society’s annual quilt raffle will be at the end of the evening. Raffle tickets will be on sale at the Ice Cream Social. In addition, the quilt will be on display. It was hand-sewn by Cathy Finch and donated to the society. Winner need not be present to win.
Tickets for the ice cream/cake or pie/coffee or lemonade are $5 per person and can be purchased at the door.
