Food Bank’s Best in Paradise cheeseburger, margarita contest June 19 at Lombardi Club

The Fifth Annual Best in Paradise “Best Cheeseburger” and “Best Margarita” contest to benefit Northern Illinois Food Bank (NIFB) will be from 3 to 9:30 p.m., Saturday, June 19, at Lombardi Club, 209 Olive St., Rockford.

The event will feature live music with Tony Amber from 3 to 5 p.m. and Pirates Over 40 from 5:30 to 9:30 p.m. Food and drinks can be purchased as well as samples of the contestant burgers and margaritas. A 50-50 raffle and live auction items will round out the event. The prize for the cheeseburger competition is $500 and for the best margarita, the winners will receive $250.

Admission is $5 with all proceeds benefitting NIFB’s Youth Nutrition Programs. The Food Bank will feed more than 1 million meals to kids in need this year.

Northern Illinois Food Bank (NIFB) is a non-profit organization that provides food to all those in need through its 520 partner agencies in the following 13 counties—Boone, DuPage, DeKalb, Grundy, Kane, Kankakee, Kendall, Lake, McHenry, Ogle, Stephenson, Will and Winnebago.

NIFB acquires, gathers, handles and distributes donated, government, and purchased food to more than 61,000 different people each week through local food pantries, soup kitchens, shelters, youth activity centers and other food assistance sites.

In Fiscal Year 2009, NIFB distributed more than 27 million pounds of food. The Food Bank has recently launched a Capital Campaign to build a new Food Distribution and Community Nutrition Center to enable them to handle more food more efficiently to meet the increasing demand.

NIFB was recently recognized by Feeding America, the nation’s network of Food Banks, as the Food Bank of the year.
