Guest Column: Neighborhood friends–1960

Starting in the upper row: from left to right, is the boy wearing a sailor’s hat. His name was Billy, and he lived two houses to the south of my parents’ home. He is the son of Virginia and Hank Hagman, and his father owned a septic service. His mother was a meticulous housekeeper. Billy’s last name was Beamon, and when he grew up, he became the captain of the Blackhawk Fire Department. Next to him is Randy Wescott. I am the blond-haired boy standing next to him (Phil Wilson) and last on the top row, wearing the striped shirt, is my best friend, Steve (Fred Steven Wescott). When he grew up, he became a member of the Rockford School Board; then he was the head member of the Rockford Housing Committee. But now he is a member of the county board.

On the bottom row, again from left to right, is Janet Wescott, who is Randy and Fred Steven’s younger sister. Then, last are Philip Wilson’s younger brother and sister, Steven Randle Wilson and Sylvia Wilson.

Philip Wilson is a Rockford resident.
