Roscoe’s Kids SPOT offers free cheer clinic July 2

From press release

ROSCOE, Ill.—Kids SPOT in Roscoe is looking to fill gaps in the community by offering healthy and fun activities this summer. Friday, July 2, Kids SPOT is offering a FREE Cheerleading Clinic. This clinic is a two-hour event for girls and boys ages 3 to 18 years old who want to see what cheer is all about.

“Many kids never get the opportunity to explore cheer, because slots on school cheer teams are really limited,” says Katie Dohm, Kids SPOT Cheer Program director. “This free clinic will allow youngsters to explore cheer from a recreational point of view, to see how much fun cheer can be.”

Decades ago, cheerleading was considered as less than a sport and more associated with social status and a particular “look.” Today, male and female cheerleaders must be serious athletes, willing to compete professionally and skilled in tumbling, dance and stunts. Kids SPOT offers this free clinic to allow families to see what the new face of cheer is all about, and focus on the athletic skills available through a cheer program.

“While our cheer teams are quite competitive, our recreational cheer program focuses on fitness, skill-building, team work and fun,” Dohm says. “Cheer at Kids SPOT has something for everyone.”

The Free Cheer Clinic will begin at 6 p.m., July 2. Participants will work on basic skills and learn a routine. At 7:30 p.m., parents are invited to return to the gym to watch the clinic participants perform for the audience.

The Kids SPOT cheerleaders and cheer coaches will be instructing and working with the clinic participants. While there is no charge for this clinic, pre-registration is required to attend. The first 50 boys and girls to register for this clinic will receive a cheer item from Kids SPOT. To register, or for additional information, call the gym at (815) 623-KIDS (5437).

For girls and boys interested in the Kids SPOT Cheer Competitive Teams, tryouts for the new season will be held at the gym Friday July 9. Contact Kids SPOT at the number above or visit the Web site at for additional details.
