Jam ’N’ Jazz World Music Camps for students, teachers in July

Jam ’N’ Jazz World Music Camps will be held this July for local children, teens and teachers. All music camp sessions will be facilitated by songwriter and multi-instrumentalist David Stocker, and will be hosted by Emmanuel Lutheran Church, 920 Third Ave., Rockford.

Financial aid/scholarships are available for those in need. Jam ’N’ Jazz campers will perform at the Kiwani’s Brat Days Friday, July 16, at Logli on North Alpine Road.
Music camp sessions are as follows:
July 5-9: World Music Camp Beginners and Juniors, ages K-13—For children interested in starting music or in their first couple years of instrument study. Experience group rhythm, melody and jamming. Make simple instruments and learn about the nature of vibration. Share stories about the origins of music. Find your groove at drum circles and explore early jam band development. Half Day Camp 8:30 a.m.-12:15 p.m., with optional afternoon pool recreation. Camp fee: $100.
July 12-16: Intermediate and Advanced Jam Band Camp, ages 10-18—For more experienced music campers with a few years or more of instrument study. Enjoy a relaxed band experience and hands-on individual mentoring. Explore fun classic jazz jam tunes and world grooves. Develop improvisation skills and work with alumni mentors. Professional instructors will lead clinics and small-group instruction. Morning ensemble, mid-day clinics, performance opportunities with optional afternoon pool recreation. Day Camp 8:30 a.m.-4 p.m. Camp fee for intermediate $175, and advanced, $200.
July 5-9 and July 12-16: Jam ’N’ Jazz World Music Camps for K-8 Teachers—K-8 teachers learn to lead drum circles and teach instrument-making. Explore the Origins of Music Curriculum. Earn CPDUs. Camp fee: $175.
