Ford to fill cab truck gap left by GM with new gas V-10

Ford Motor Co. announced last week it will offer a gasoline engine in its F-650 and F-750 medium-duty chassis cab trucks in 2012. The trucks will be sparked by a 6.8-liter V-10 with 362 horsepower.
According to execs, the engine will fill the gap in Class 6 and 7 medium-duty trucks left by GM, when it pulled out of the market sector. Ford hopes to capture the popularity General Motors enjoyed with its V-10 gasoline engine, which was common in government fleets and a low-cost alternative to diesel engines.
The 2012 F-650 and F-750 lines will also include an alternative fuel prep package, which will be available this year on F-450 and F-550 Super Duty cab trucks. The conversion allows for use of liquefied petroleum gasoline.
Ford is slated to begin taking orders for the V-10, F-650 F-750 chassis trucks in the fourth quarter of next year.
