Timber Lake presents the comedy Love, Sex and the I.R.S.

From press release

MOUNT CARROLL, Ill.—Timber Lake Playhouse (TLP), northwestern Illinois’ professional summer theater, has announced Love, Sex and the I.R.S. as its fourth production of the season, running July 15-24.

A sensation at theaters all over the country, Love, Sex and the I.R.S. is set in New York City in 1974. Jon and Leslie, two unemployed male musicians, discover they are about to be audited. When Jon announces he has been filing their taxes as a married couple for four years to save money, Leslie is thrown into an identity crisis that becomes the performance of a lifetime. Throw in an intoxicated I.R.S. agent, a jealous girlfriend, a secret affair and an overbearing mother, and the laughter never stops! This madcap, screwball comedy is guaranteed to leave audiences teary-eyed with laughter.

Love, Sex and the I.R.S. stars TLP resident performers Trevor Leaderbrand as Jon and Daniel Switzer as Leslie. Also starring is Meg Maley, a new addition to this year’s company. Philip Black, Brittany E. Martin, Jay Ellis, Andrea Leach and Jeffrey Fenoglio round out the cast.

Acclaimed Quad Cities area director Derek Bertelsen stages the show. Bertelsen has been a fixture in our region in recent years with his successful productions including Carousel, Assassins, Into the Woods, Misery and others. Love, Sex and the I.R.S. marks his first collaboration with Timber Lake Playhouse, and the company is thrilled to bring his talents to our audiences.

TLP’s 49th season is turning out to be one of its brightest, featuring a combination of recent Broadway hits and stunning classics. Still to come this season is the musical comedy song and dance extravaganza, Curtains, featuring guest appearances by TLP stars Samantha Dubina and Chris Froseth. Froseth played the title role in last year’s smash hit, Buddy: The Buddy Holly Story. The season will close out in August with The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee, a new musical that will also feature Dubina and Froseth and a very special appearance by former TLP Artistic Director Brad Lyons.
