Yes, the stigma is justified. I'm sure many people have perfectly safe pit bulls, but the fact remains that pit bulls are more dangerous than most other breeds. The majority of people killed by dogs each year are killed by pits. And it is a safe assumption that severe attacks track this same breed trend.

I have a pitbull that is all white with black spots name baby girl and also one of her sons which is half pitbull and half boxer. Baby girl is the typy of dog that if you want to play she will play and if you want to hang out on the couch she will sit with you all day. If she gets sick and makes a mess in the house she tucks her ears and hides. Why because her aim is to please me and make me happy. Her son that part boxer has made him more clumsy the her and hypper. He has a great personilty to play. I have a 9 month old son, of course any dog you never leave along as a good parent, who loves to bounce on the dogs back and try to pull his ears. I work with my son on petting nicely to the dogs but he is still learning. The amazing thing is when my son is close to the dogs they will not look my child in the eye nor bring their face to his face. they walk around quilty and slowly. And if my son cries where ever he is my dogs run to help. If I do not get their fast enough they come bugging me. They are amazing dogs and it is a shame people have miss treated them and know are punishing the dogs instead of the owners. I do not recommend anyone going the anydog that they do not know about and try to be friends but I also know that there are dogs out there that have a lot less patients then mind and I am sad to see the way america is treating them. Why do we worry about save wolfs, mountain loins and alagators but we want to kill off pitbulls. Which ones are more wild and which ones are house pets.

Like in the article I've had people cross the street or press up against the side of a building to avoid us while walking my pit mix. The reality is is when someone comes to the door he runs and hides in my room. He is one of the best friends I've ever had.

I adopted my pit mix almost four years ago, from a rescue organization. He's been the best thing that's ever happened to me. His biggest flaw is that he is too friendly, and might love people and other animals too much. With people, he will snuggle (whether they want him to or not), and with animals, he will try to play. He always, always backs down if another dog isn't interested. If it's a cat, he becomes terrified at the first hiss -- even when I brought home two 22-ounce kittens.

Think you can predict behavior by breed? My pup was standing in the dog park one day, happily wagging his tail, when a lab came out of nowhere and attacked him, leaving six tooth-shaped puncture scars around his right eye.

It's not the breed.
