Learn about CROP Hunger Walk at free event Aug. 12
From press release
Julia Jones, associate director of Church World Service, the recipient of Hunger Walk funds, will update the community about how you can help people in need through the CROP Hunger Walk at a free progam beginning at 6 p.m., Thursday, Aug. 12.
The program will be at Riverfront Museum Park, 711 N. Main St., Rockford, downstairs next to Discovery Center.
People are also invited to pick up materials at the event for the Rockford CROP Hunger Walk.
The program is an opportunity to learn about this year’s Rockford Area CROP Hunger Walk, which is Sunday, Oct. 17, and how the funds are used to help relieve local and world hunger.
Participants will learn of hunger needs in Rockford and the world, as well as receive materials to recruit walkers and solicit sponsors.
This year’s walk is dedicated to Edie Applegate, well-known nutritionist and long-time member of the CROP Hunger Walk Committee who passed away last spring. She set up and managed the last four CROP walks.
The CROP Hunger Walk raises money for local food pantries and worldwide hunger relief through Church World Service. People are welcome to designate other overseas relief organizations as well.
Last year, the CROP Hunger Walk raised more than $33,000. This will be the 24th CROP Hunger Walk.
