Rockford Sexual Assault Counseling seeks volunteers

You can make a difference in someone’s life! Rockford Sexual Assault Counseling, Inc.  is currently recruiting volunteers to provide advocacy for victims of sexual assault or abuse, and their families. You will play an important role in helping victims feel they are not alone and not to blame for the assault. When you are on call, you will carry a pager and respond to local emergency rooms when an assault has occurred, and/or you will provide phone advocacy for someone in need.

On-call hours are: Sundays-Thursdays, 4 p.m.-9 a.m.; Friday/Saturday, 4 p.m.-4 a.m. You choose the night(s) that work best for you. Forty-hour training is required and provided by RSAC. A $40 fee is required to cover class materials. (Scholarships are available).

The Fall 2010 training schedule is as follows: Saturday, Sept. 18–8:30 a.m.-5 p.m.

Wednesdays (9/22, 9/29, 10/6, 10/13, 10/20) – 6-9 p.m.

Saturday, Oct. 9–8:30 a.m.-3:30 p.m.

To participate, you must be at least 18 years of age; have reliable transportation with insurance, have a telephone, and pass a background check. To receive a volunteer packet with additional information, call (815) 636-9811, or e-mail your name, address and phone number to: rsacinc@aol.com
