Dr. Julia’s Inn: Identifying obesity
By Dr. Julia Whipkey-Michniewicz, N.D.
Doctor of Naturopathic Medicine
You may think that with a title as “Identifying obesity,” this is a little redundant, but it truly is not. What I am truly saying is that when you identify obesity, what you are really doing is addressing illnesses, which are then called diseases. When I was working in Madison, Wis., with a medical doctor, the majority of the illnesses that came into Dr. Bill’s office were all related to obesity. Let us look at the issues that walked into Dr. Bill’s office every day.
1. High blood pressure. Dr. Bill would tell people that this disease is caused by foods that are dead and processed. Blood pressure medication is not necessary when your diet is cleansed, and weight loss is achieved.
2. High blood cholesterol. This is caused by the sugars that we are ingesting. High sugar levels cause high blood cholesterol. On a further note, do you realize that 80 percent of your brain is made up of cholesterol, and when you take high cholesterol drugs such as Crestor, Lipitor (just to name a couple), you are removing the cholesterol from your brain? Did you ever wonder why so many people have dementia and Alzheimer’s?
3. Adult diabetes. Type II diabetes. This again is caused by the dead processed foods that we are all consuming and a diet full of sugars and foods that turn into sugar.
4. Neuropathy: Sugar.
5. Arthritis: Sugar.
6. Depression: Sugar.
And the list goes on and on and on. The sugar substitutes such as aspartame are as bad as sugar. Aspartame is a chemical, and when ingested, goes to the cellular level of the body and harms the autoimmune system. I see the damages of chemical therapy every day in my practice. This, along with heavy metals, is more prominent than most people realize. When heavy metals and chemicals get into the body, it causes many illnesses. Organs are harmed, and the two main organs that are affected are the thyroid and the prostate. The reason why these organs are affected the most is that the thyroid and the prostate are mineral-grabbers. That means that if you are not getting the needed minerals from your food sources, then your body will grab any mineral that comes in. Let’s look at some sources of heavy metal poisoning. For instance, if your skin and hair need extra copper, and you get an inorganic source of copper, the thyroid and prostate will grab this mineral, even though it is a bad metal. Where do you get this bad source of copper? Dental crowns, copper plumbing, beer, swimming pools, just to name a few.
Let’s look at another example. If your body needs iron to help with RBCs, and you get an inorganic source of iron, your thyroid and prostate will grab this mineral. Where do you get this bad source of iron? Dyes, paints, inorganic mineral supplements in food, just to name a few. And let’s say you are trying to get pregnant, your thyroid and prostate will hold on to this also. Where do you get inorganic sources of manganese? Antiseptics, steel products, air pollution, ceramics, just to name a few.
Let’s look at chemical poisoning. These should be easier if you are educating yourself about it what you are putting in your mouth and putting on your skin.
Acetate poisoning: These come from nail polish removers, paint thinners and removers. Food colors and preservatives: Packaged foods. Formaldehyde: New building materials, carpet and diet pop. We all know that formaldehyde is used for embalming, but do you know every time you have a diet pop that has aspartame in it, you are drinking formaldehyde? Plastic mix: Food and water packaging materials.
The reason I am stressing this is mainly for the thyroid. When our thyroids are bombarded with immune challenges coming from heavy metals, chemicals and food challenges, then this will cause many different thyroid diseases, and thyroid diseases will lead to obesity. Just recently in my practice, I have seen two young women (in their early 20s) who have just been diagnosed with having a goiter. Can you believe this? Goiters were common 50 years ago, and we are now seeing goiters again. This is a huge thyroid issue with low organic minerals and iodine. When the thyroid gland is depressed, it puts a strain on the adrenals and the pituitary. Hormonal health is the triangle of thyroid, adrenals and pituitary, and let us not forget the hypothalamus gland. When a patient comes to see me and wants me to help them with weight issues, I look at the triangle of health along with diet, digestion, assimilation and absorption. In the 28 years that I have been in practice, people keep eating, hoping to get energy, but the foods they are eating are stressing them out and causing them harm. Once you have detoxed your body, added the needed digestive support, changed your diet, identified the immune challenge, and worked with the organs that are suppressed, the body can do wonderful things.
I came to see Dr. Julia from Freeport, Ill., for I was having health issues and to no avail, I was getting nowhere with my medical doctor. After three years of being put on medication after medication, I finally said enough was enough. The sorry truth was that in the three years of playing with my medical doctor, I gained close to 40 pounds. I was the heaviest I had been in years, and the medications that I was on did this to me. I shared with Dr. Julia that when I eat good, I gain weight. When I eat bad, I gain weight. If I exercise, I gain weight. If I don’t exercise, I gain weight. Nothing I did worked. Dr. Julia educated me on foods that I was eating that were turning into sugar and what was the difference between healthy fats and bad fats. She suggested a series of cleanses along with the correct enzyme to help me break down my foods. I had my blood report with me, and she went over my lab work and suggested that I do the HCG protocol after my cleanses to help me with the high levels of cortisol. I started to laugh, and she asked me what was so funny, and I told her that my own medical doctor did not even go over my blood work with me, and he was the one who told me I had to have blood work done. I continued to laugh, for all he did was put me on depressive medication. I have now had three cleanses done along with three colon hydrotherapy sessions. I am doing the six-week HCG with the high dose, and in two weeks have already lost 14 pounds. During the three-month cleansing protocol, I lost 11 pounds just by doing cleanses and changing my diet. I look forward to seeing less and less of me. — Jackie B.
I brought my daughter in to see Dr. Julia, for she was 14 years old and having weight and menses issues. Amy was having major cramping, breast pain and edema every month, and the only solution her medical doctor was telling us was for Amy to get on birth control. I would not allow my 14-year-old to be on birth control. I had seen Dr. Julia’s ads in Rock River Times and on TV, and thought I would try her. Right away, Amy was very comfortable with Dr. Julia, and through kinesiology, Dr. Julia found Amy was missing certain minerals and supplements to help her while she was going through her change. I am so blessed that we found Dr. Julia, not only because of all the help that she gave to Amy, but because Amy learned that you just don’t pop a pill to solve a problem. The body is wonderful, and while it is going through changes, it needs to have support and balance. — Karen H.
