Local author hosts book-signing at Hailey’s Winery in Byron Sept. 10
From press release
BYRON, Ill.—Local resident Judi Coltman has recently written a book, Is it Just me? or Is Everyone a Little Nuts!, a humorous look at parenting, marriage, aging and small-town living from a middle-aged housewife’s point of view.
Written in short chapters, Coltman retells everyday life events infused with her skewed sense of humor. These small snippets of life are moments in which anyone can identify and laugh at themselves as well.
Coltman moved to Ogle County in the early 1980s and has lived in Byron for the last 27 years. Raised in metro Detroit, Coltman takes her suburban upbringing and applies it to her small-town life, resulting in some near-to-tears moments of laughter.
Embedded in the light moments are some reflective, even soul-wrenching, observations reminding us that we are really only human.
Prior to writing this book, Coltman wrote for both local and national publications as well as creating a children’s newsletter that was distributed in the school district locally.
“I had to work extremely hard to keep my sense of humor in check when writing the serious editorial pieces,” Coltman said. “It is a relief to write something that allows me to say what I am really thinking.”
Coltman’s inspiration comes from the late Erma Bombeck, with whom she communicated shortly before Bombeck’s death. Most meaningful was a letter she received from Bombeck’s secretary after her death. It contained words of encouragement that have always stayed with Coltman and became the impetus for Is it Just Me? or Is Everyone a Little Nuts!.
A book signing has been scheduled at Byron’s Hailey’s Winery from 6 to 8 p.m., Sept. 10. The public is welcome to come out, meet the author and share an evening of laughs. A limited number of books will be available but can easily be purchased through links on Coltman’s website, judicoltman.com.
