Belvidere’s Summerfield Zoo welcomes Fennec Fox kitten Sept. 11, medieval reenactors Sept. 12

BELVIDERE, Ill.—Summerfield Zoo has announced the arrival of a female Fennec Fox kitten. The zoo will also welcome a group of medieval reenactors from the Shire of Blackhawk. The public is invited to see the special new addition to the zoo Sept. 11 and to have a chance to see local medieval reenactors in action Sept. 12.
Tammy Anderson, member of the board of directors at Summerfield Zoo, said: “We are excited to welcome a female Fennec Fox to the zoo. Once she matures, she will be the mate to the male fennec that already resides at the zoo. This will be a great addition to the country’s captive breeding program for Fennec Foxes.”
Margaret Tyler, volunteer at Summerfield Zoo, said: “Summerfield Zoo will be going medieval on Sunday, Sept. 12! This will be a fun event for everyone to get the chance to see local medieval reenactors from the Shire of Blackhawk duel, joust, spin lace, prepare medieval-style meals, and much more!”
Summerfield Zoo is open from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., Saturday, Sept. 11. Admission for this day is $5 per person.
Summerfield Zoo is open 11 a.m. to 4 p.m., Sunday, Sept. 12. Admission for this day is $7 per adult and $5 per child. All proceeds go to the care of all the animals, many of which are rescues.
Enjoy animal presentations, a petting zoo, and shop in the gift shop all while at the zoo.
Summerfield Zoo is a not-for-profit organization providing an up-close and personal animal experience for the whole family. As a small zoo, visitors can get up close and meet many of the animals.
