Symphony offers outreach activities prior to Jeffrey Biegel performance
From press release
Rockford Symphony Orchestra (RSO) has announced two outreach activities in conjunction with the arrival of guest pianist Jeffrey Biegel, who will perform with the orchestra at 7:30 p.m., Saturday, Sept. 18, in the Coronado Theater.
Biegel is an accomplished soloist and piano teacher and has performed with orchestras across the country. He is on the piano faculty at the Brooklyn Conservatory of Music at Brooklyn College, a City University of New York (CUNY), and the Graduate Center of the City University of New York (CUNY).
The first outreach activity, a SoundBites Lunchtime, will be from noon to 1 p.m., Friday, Sept. 17, at Riverfront Museum Park’s Kresge Hall. Biegel will be the guest at the season’s first SoundBites, hosted by RSO Music Director Steven Larsen.
SoundBites begins its fifth year as a casual opportunity for participants to get an “insider’s view” of the life of RSO guest artists appearing in Classics Series concerts. The event is free; participants may choose to bring a lunch or preorder a box lunch from Movable Feast for $12 through the RSO office. Call (815) 972-2939 by Wednesday, Sept. 15, to preorder lunch.
The second outreach activity, a Piano Master Class, will be from 3 to 5 p.m., Friday, Sept. 17, in the rehearsal room at Coronado Performing Arts Center, 314 N. Main St.
Biegel will conduct a master class with four adult pianists, and the class will be open for observation by the general public. A suggested donation of $5 will benefit RSO education outreach programs. Reservations are not required, and entry will be through the Coronado Box Office. For further information, contact Lorie at (815) 972-2939.
Biegel will perform the Andante Spianato and Grande Polonaise Brillante, Op. 22 by Frédéric Chopin and Piano Concert No. 1 by Keith Emerson (of Emerson, Lake and Palmer) with the Rockford Symphony Orchestra at 7:30 p.m., Saturday, Sept. 17, in the Coronado Performing Arts Center.
