Leaf River’s River Valley Center hosts open stage Sept. 17

From press release

LEAF RIVER, Ill.—River Valley Center (RVC) in Leaf River, Ill.—the former grade school on the south end of town—will ring with music Sept. 17 with an inaugural “Third Friday” entertainment planned as an open stage.

All genres of music are welcome, as well as short spoken-word pieces.

“All ages are welcome, with any family-tolerable entertainment,” said Andrea Dubnick, organizer of the series. “A juggler or magic act will not be out of place.”

Performers will sign up at the door, and local musician Phil McMillen’s band has already promised to play. The show starts at 7 p.m., and suggested donation is at least $3 per person, with all proceeds going to maintenance of the building. The RVC Committee will host light refreshments.

Next month’s open stage will be Oct. 15, with a “Shivers” theme: ghost stories around a magical campfire, interspersed with music and other surprises.

“Non-spooky acts are welcome, too,” promised Dubnick. “We can’t scare ourselves silly two weeks before Halloween, can we?”
