Sept. 22 seminar to educate construction industry on $10 million in upcoming District 205 projects

From press release

In an effort to raise awareness of its bidding process, Rockford Public Schools will conduct a special “Let’s Do Business” seminar tailored to the construction trades and $10 million in upcoming Life Safety contracts.

District 205 Chief Financial Officer Cedric Lewis, Chief Operations Officer Todd Schmidt and other school administrators will explain how to submit bids and discuss the upgrades required in Rockford Public Schools to remedy recent findings by the Illinois Board of Education under the Health/Life Safe Code. Over the next three years, $10 million in contracts will be awarded for roofing, window and HVAC replacements, masonry repairs and upgrades to electrical security and fire-alarm systems, among other facilities work.

“Let’s Do Business” will be presented at 10 a.m., Wednesday, Sept. 22, in Room 207 of the Administration Building, 201 St. Madison St.

“Let’s Do Business” follows similar seminars in March, April, May and June. “How to do Business with Rockford Public Schools” offered guidance in navigating local, state and federal requirements for submitting bids and provided information about general contracting opportunities expected to be advertising within the next 12 months.

“Our objective is to obtain the best possible pricing and value for Rockford Public Schools,” Lewis said. “We can potentially stimulate the local economy if local businesses respond to our bid solicitations; however, we are, of course, required to award to the lowest, most responsible bidder.”
