Park District, YMCA employees kick off Golden Shoe Challenge

From press release

At noon, Monday, Sept. 20, employees from the Rockford Park District and the YMCA, led by directors Tim Dimke and Wray Howard, met at the Millennium Fountain, 200 N. Water St., to kick off the employee awareness effort to promote community-wide health. The kick-off started with a 4-minute pep rally performed by each agency and led by their respective directors. The “Golden Shoe Challenge” is part of both agencies’ commitment to the community initiative, “Get Moving” leadership strategy to facilitate active living and healthier eating through policy and environmental changes.

As part of the challenge, employees from each organization will participate and record their time spent on purposeful exercise and activity, such as walking, running, biking, etc. The organization with the most time spent on these activities by Oct. 3, 2010, will receive the “Golden Shoe” award.

“This is a great opportunity for staff members from both of our organizations to show their commitment to participating in healthy recreational activities. The Rockford Park District and the YMCA are great community partners, and this is a fun way for our teams to get together and show support for healthy initiatives,” said Manager of Community Recreation Services Laurie Anderson.
