From press release
Students from the Music Academy of Rockford College will celebrate our American musical heritage at Music on the Midway from 1:30 to 5 p.m., Oct. 3, at Midway Village. This family-friendly event, part of the music academy’s 25th anniversary celebration, will feature more than 300 students performing throughout the buildings and grounds of Midway Village.
Violin, viola, cello, flute and guitar ensembles will perform, as will solo vocalists and pianists. The advanced performing and touring ensembles Measure 5 and the Bella Quartet also will be featured. Performances will be held at various venues of Midway Village, including the Chamberlain Hotel, school house, church, hospital, general store and gazebo.
Highlighting the afternoon will be a performance by Sunnyside-Up, a Chicago based acoustic string band. The group will perform an expertly-crafted mixture of bluegrass, swing, square-dance and fiddle music at 3 p.m. in the barn.
Light refreshments, musical arts and crafts, an instrument petting zoo and storytelling and singing for younger children will also be part of Music on the Midway.
Tickets are $10 for adults and $5 for children and students. Families can save by buying a family four-pack for $25. Tickets are available from the Music Academy at (815) 226-4168 and at the door.
