Greater Rockford Italian American Association (GRIAA) announces new and expanded Italian Hall of Fame Awards

The Greater Rockford Italian American Association (GRIAA) sponsors several annual events, including its annual Festa Italiana, Columbus Day Mass, golf opens and the Italian Hall of Fame Awards. This year, GRIAA is expanding its Hall of Fame Awards to include a new category of award, the Special Recognition Award.
Oct. 9, 2010, area Italian-Americans will be inducted into the Italian Hall of Fame, and other nominees will be presented with the new Special Recognition awards at Cliffbreakers Resort and Conference Center.
Awardees are nominated from the community and selected by a committee of GRIAA. The Hall of Fame Special Recognition Awards will recognize Italian-Americans who have excelled in a particular field of endeavor. They will be given in the following categories: Arts (fine and performing), business, community service, education, law, medicine, law enforcement, military, religion, science and sports.
The community is invited to nominate deserving Italian-Americans for both the Hall of Fame and the Special Recognition Awards. Nomination forms can be found online at griaa.com and should be sent to GRIAA, P.O. Box 1915, Rockford, IL 61110-0415. A brief description of the individuals’ achievements should accompany the nomination.
The community is invited to the Oct. 9 dinner at Cliffbreakers. The cost is $25 and begins with a social hour at 6 p.m., Italian appetizers and dinner at 7 p.m. with the awards ceremony following at 8 p.m. Reservations and a check for $25 with your choice of entree of Italian Chicken with Roasted Potatoes and Italian Vegetables or Crepes over Vegetables with Marinara Sauce, should be sent to GRIAA at P.O.
