Bears’ lack of protection makes winning tough

If the Chicago Bears’ offensive line doesn’t do a better job of protecting the quarterback for the remainder of the season, they may not win another game. I don’t care which Bears’ quarterback is taking the snaps—Jay Cutler, Kerry Collins or Caleb Hanie—without the proper protection, they are all going to get severely injured.
Granted, Cutler held the ball longer than he should have last week in the game against the Giants. However he’s been repeatedly abused by opposing defenses this year as a result of the inability of the offensive line to stop the pass rush. I’m somewhat surprised he’s lasted as long as he has this season.
Last week, the Giants set a record with 10 sacks against the Bears. Until Olin Kruetz, Lance Louis, Frank Omiyale, Kevin Schaffer and J’Marcus Webb prove they can stop whoever is lining up against them on the opposing defense, that record may be in jeopardy of being broken each week.
Former Minnesota Vikings Head Coach Mike Tice was hired last January to be the offensive line coach. So far, I’d have to say he’s not earning his paycheck. I’m not sure any of the Bears’ coaches are, for that matter.
The Bears had better find someone immediately who can sustain a block for more than two seconds. If they don’t, they better find an Iron Man suit for their quarterback. Looking ahead to next week’s game, the question remains, who is going to be healthy enough or brave enough to line up behind that sieve currently called an offensive line? At least half of that is correct. They are offensive.
