350.org hosts DeKalb Prairie Park Cleanup Oct. 10

DEKALB, Ill.—350.org [1] will host a DeKalb Prairie Park Cleanup from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m., Sunday, Oct. 10, at Prairie Park in DeKalb, Ill.
350.org is hosting the event as part of the “10/10/10 Global Workparty Day.” 350.org is raising awareness for climate change. 350 parts per million of carbon in the atmosphere is sustainable for human life, and the planet is at 390.
Last year, more than 5,200 workparties were held in 181 countries.
Those interested in participating in the DeKalb event should wear comfortable shoes, pants, gloves and trash bags. Directions to the park: From Lincoln Highway: Take Pearl south to Gurler, turn right. Gurler becomes Clifford, and the group will meet at the disc golf course. Park on the street.
350.org is an international campaign that’s building a movement to unite the world around solutions to the climate crisis—the solutions that science and justice demand.
The group’s mission is to inspire the world to rise to the challenge of the climate crisis—to create a new sense of urgency and of possibility for the planet.
The focus is on the number 350—as in parts per million CO2. If we can’t get below that, scientists say, the damage we’re already seeing from global warming will continue and accelerate. But 350 is more than a number—it’s a symbol of where we need to head as a planet.
In October 2009, 350.org coordinated 5,200 simultaneous rallies and demonstrations in 181 countries, what CNN called the “most widespread day of political action in the planet’s history.” This October, 350.org is organizing a “global work party” all over the world. People will put up solar panels, dig community gardens—and send a strong message to our leaders: “If we can get to work on solutions to the climate crisis, so can you.”
The theory of change is simple: if an international grassroots movement holds our leaders accountable to the latest climate science, we can start the global transformation we so desperately need.
