Literary Hook: Poem: ‘The Keeper of Silence’

The Keeper of Silence
I am the keeper of silence,
the kind that has no human sounds
I wake in the morning and
listen to the bird who has taken residence
in the bush outside my bedroom window
the silence is pure around his song
a part of nature.
I create my own silence in my home
TV, radio and computer
are off many more hours than on
with doors and windows shut
outside noises diffused
the inner silence soothes
surrounds and embraces me
peaceful and smooth.
In large peopled areas, I flip the switch
In my brain and turn off all sounds
picture a peaceful park, a room in my home
the street where I live, bare of autos
lined with oaks, maples, and pine
packed full of green quietly dancing leaves
All silent just for me.
